The Maritime Museum was founded in 1968 as a historical nautical museum that showcases the maritime history of Waltham, Massachusetts and its maritime heritage. Open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum is located in the heart of downtown Springfield, just blocks from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This 19th century adventure begins with a living history museum, and it is the only museum in Massachusetts that provides a detailed insight into the Revolutionary War and the leadership of the revolution by WALTHam. The Blue Hills Trailside Museum is part of the state's Blue Hills Reservation and is operated in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. The museum's nationally significant collection includes artifacts such as granite quarries, stone tools, ceramics, glass, wood and glassware, as well as artifacts from the past, present and future of Waltham, Massachusetts. It has a collection of more than 1,000 works of art, artifacts, photographs, manuscripts, books and other memorabilia from Waltham's history and culture, from its beginnings as a mountaineering museum to its current use as an art gallery and educational centre for children and adults in the community. RA Museum Enterprises Ltd. is the trading arm of the RAF Museum, the profits of which are used to support its charitable activities. The Cape Ann Museum is one of the oldest and largest museums in Massachusetts and can be visited with a museum ticket. The three buildings are part of the CapeAnn Museum Green and host a number of area attractions, including Sox go-Sox Stadium, Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame, MassCareers (which serves as the office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) and the Massachusetts Museum of Natural History. All three buildings are within walking distance and a short walk from the museum.
